Meiners signs with DI Dallas Baptist University

Des Moines Area Community College sophomore shortstop Travis Meiners has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and play baseball at Division I Dallas Baptist University. Meiners is the lone junior college sign for the Patriots and is a versatile infielder, who can play any position.  Meiners hit .376, with 14 doubles and 5 triples for DMACC last season, while stealing 13 bases.  For his efforts, he was named ICCAC All-Conference Second Team. Originally, from Eyota, Minnesota, Meiners was named First Team All-State in 2006.

"We are extremely excited that Travis Meiners has committed to play at Dallas Baptist University. We look for Travis to make an immediate impact with his athleticism and versatility. We feel Travis is a great fit at DBU not only because of his baseball ability but also due to his character and work ethic," said DBU head baseball coach and Iowa City native Dan Heefner.

DMACC head baseball coach Dan Fitzgerald echoed Heefner’s thoughts saying, “Travis is an incredible athlete and a relentless competitor, but his character is his greatest strength.  He comes from a great family, is a great student, and is going to be a tremendous addition at DBU.”  Meiners and the DMACC Bears open up their season on March 1 against Longview Community College in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
