DMACC's EJ Hicks to Play Basketball at Truman State

EJ HicksDes Moines Area Community College (DMACC) sophomore E.J. Hicks of Davenport has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Truman State University (TSU) in Kirksville, Mo.

Hicks started 30 of 31 games for the Bears this past season and averaged 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds a game. He made 99 of 227 field goal attempts, including 30-of-97 from three-point range, and was 55-of-68 at the free throw line. Hicks finished the season with 283 points and 148 rebounds.

Hicks helped DMACC to a 23-8 season, including an 8-6 record in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). His season also included 54 assists, 29 steals and 13 blocked shots.

TSU is a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Bulldogs were 7-19 last season and 5-17 in the MIAA. TSU will begin the 2011-12 season under new head coach Matt Woodley, who coached the Waukee High School boys’ basketball team the past two seasons.

“E.J. comes from a good junior college program,” Woodley said. “He was very well coached and brings the ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways. He is a natural scorer and can play any of the three guard spots.”

Hicks is the fourth DMACC sophomore to commit to a four-year program this month. Kannon Burrage of Davenport will play at the University of Texas-San Antonio, Hal Bateman of Davenport has committed to Stephen F. Austin University and Mike Thompson of Bettendorf has signed with Missouri Southern University.
