The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Women’s Volleyball Team won its third straight match on Thursday, a 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-17) victory against North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City.
“We’re really starting to step up offensively and passing really well,” DMACC Coach Patty Harrison said. “We’re cutting down on our errors and getting a few more players in. Our key players are starting to step up and hit the ball harder and find some holes.”
Freshman outside hitter Maggie Vondrak and freshman middle hitter Elizabeth Ihnen paced the Bears to the win with seven kills apiece. Ihnen also had two ace serves and three blocks. Mary Jo Twiford, a freshman outside hitter, added five kills and sophomore setter Natalie Weis contributed 25 assists and six digs. Freshman defensive specialist Jamie Buchmann led the team in digs with 11.
DMACC, which hit .265 in the match, has won nine consecutive games during its three-match winning streak. The Bears overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Kishwaukee 3-2 in their final match at the Johnson County Tournament last weekend and then recorded back-to-back 3-0 wins against Iowa Central Community College and NIACC.
“It’s nice to get a couple of wins behind us and to get some confidence,” Harrison said.
DMACC is idle until it hosts Southwestern Community College on Sept. 8.
