Steve Krafcisin enters his fourth year as the Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Program at DMACC. Coach K's accomplishments include:
• Jocelyn Anderson (Gowrie, Iowa) became the first female athlete at DMACC to be named NJCAA All-American for two consecutive years. (2005-07)
• Achieved the highest team grade point average (3.40) of all the community college basketball programs in the state of Iowa, and placed 4th nationally. (2006-07)
• Placed 14 Bears on All-Region teams.
In Coach K’s 3 years as Head Coach, the Bears are 69-27 and 42-14 in region play.
Steve began his coaching career as an assistant at Loras College in Dubuque from 1984-87. He became an assistant coach under Johnny Orr at ISU from 1987-1994. From 1994-96, Krafcisin was an assistant coach at the University of North Dakota. In 1996, Krafcisin returned to Iowa State for one season, this time under head coach Tim Floyd, where the Cyclones finished with a 22-9 record and the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament. Most recently, Steve was the head coach of the North Iowa Area Community College Trojan's basketball team in Mason City, Iowa from 1997-2004.
A native of Chicago, Krafcisin played for St. Laurence High School in Burbank (Chicago) Illinois where he was named All-American. Steve attended the University of North Carolina and played his freshman season (1976-77) for Coach Dean Smith. The Tar Heels won the ACC regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Final Four Championship game.
Krafcisin then transferred to the University of Iowa. He red-shirted the 1977-78 season, and played starting center for three seasons under head coach Lute Olson. Krafcisin led the team in rebounding and field goal percentage his junior and senior year, earning All-Big Ten recognition both years. The 1978-79 Hawkeye squad shared the Big Ten Conference championship and in 1980, Steve helped lead Iowa to the semi-finals of NCAA Final Four. To this day, Steve holds the unique distinction as the only player in NCAA history to play and score in two Final Fours for two different teams.
Following collegiate play, Steve was drafted in the sixth round of the NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. After briefly playing in Italy, Steve signed with the Atlantic City High Rollers of the Continental Basketball league.
Steve Krafcisin holds a bachelor's degree in Recreation from University of Iowa. He is married to Joanne Gawley and has three children, Jacob, Gabe and Grace.
Assistant Coach Dana Goodwin
This is Dana Goodwin’s sixth season as an assistant coach with the DMACC Women’s Basketball program. During his first five years he helped guide the teams, which included 17 All-Region players and four NJCAA All-Americans, to a 119-43 record. His duties at DMACC include on the floor coaching, recruiting and scouting.
Dana came to DMACC after serving as an assistant coach at Ames High School for seven years in both boys and girls basketball. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Iowa State University.
Dana resides in Ames, with his wife Tonja, daughter Kendra and son Trevor, where he teaches Physical Education at Ames Middle School.
Assistant Coach Angie McGee
Angie McGee is in her third-year as DMACC's Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. McGee holds the all-time leading scoring and rebounding records for Homestead High School in Mequon, WI. She went on to be named co-freshman of the year as a junior college athlete in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Eastern Division. She transferred to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where she played Division I basketball. She was among the top three in scoring and rebounding at UTEP. McGee was also once named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Electronic Media from the University of Texas at El Paso this past May.
Coach McGee runs the Bears strength and conditioning program as well as on the floor coaching, recruiting, scouting and assisting Coach K in the day-to-day operations of running a successful college basketball program.
Angie lives in Boone where she is a resident assistant in the Borgen Square Apartments. Angie also works on campus in Student Activities.
