A Message from the Provost
I would like to share with you a number of exciting education and student related items that are taking place on the Boone Campus for the 2007-08 school year:
- We have hired three new faculty members for the start of the year. Jim Dose has been hired as the newest member to assist students in the Academic Achievement Center. Jim comes to us from the Boone Community School. Kerry Newbanks has been hired as an instructor in the Civil Engineering and Land Surveying Department. Kerry comes to us from the business community and is a graduate of the program. Sean Taylor will be teaching Sociology and Psychology which is a new position for the campus. We are pleased to have these new faculty members join us for the start of the school year.
- We have just completed the hiring of Matt Thompson. He will be the new academic advisor and administrative liaison at Ames Hunziker Center. Matt will be working closely with ISU developing a classes and programs that will enhance both DMACC and ISU students furthering their education.
- The management of the Borgen Square Apartments continues to be a positive for the campus and community. At of the start of the school year, the apartments are completely full and there is a waiting list. If you have an interest in living in the apartments for the 2008-09 school year I would encourage you to fill out an application after the start of the second semester. You can contact Steve Kraficsin at 515-433-5078.
- Our nationally renowned athletic teams continue to perform at a national level. Our women’s volleyball team is ranked in the top 10 in the nation and continues to make strides in returning to the national tournament in November.
Our continued vision for the campus is pretty simple but very important. We want to continue to grow while offering a first class education to both traditional and nontraditional students. A priority of this campus is to establish a positive , continually growing relationship between the community of Boone and surrounding communities. We realize our success and growth depends on the support of this community. We also realize that this relationship cannot be just the surrounding communities supporting us; we also want to support the surrounding communities. This relationship – one of trust and mutual support – will result in an educational institution that we can all be proud of for years to come.
We are excited about the 2007-08 school year and look forward to interacting with each of you as we make DMACC and the Boone Campus your choice to further your education. Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. We will always make time for you.
