Criminal Forensics Career Academy

This Tech Prep program introduces students to criminal law and crime scene investigation and prepares students for entry into the criminal justice field.  A total of 16 DMACC credits are available upon completion of all DMACC Career Academy course offerings.

What kind of work will this prepare me to do in the future?

Assist people in trouble Patrol businesses, residential and rural areas Collect evidence at a crime or accident scene Testify in court Be involved in community relations activities Supervise problem youth Assist judges and attorneys Set up a loss prevention program

What other courses should I take while in high school to prepare me for this career?

Composition, Speech, Algebra I, Applied Math, Psychology, Sociology, Keyboarding.

DMACC credits you can earn while in high school:
CRJ 100	Intro to Criminal Justice – 3 credits An in-depth examination of the three components of the criminal justice system and the roles they play in society.
CRJ 141	Criminal Investigation I – 3 credits Rudiments of criminal investigation: techniques, principles, problems, sources of information, and evidentiary processes.
CRJ 109	Theories of Interviewing – 3 credits The process of gathering information from others; the interviewee, the setting, types of questions, nonverbal communication, deception and theories of communication.
CRJ 130	Criminal Law – 3 credits An examination of the elements of offenses and the procedural safeguards in the criminal process.
CRJ 195	Crime Scene Investigation – 4 credits An in-depth study into the nature of physical evidence, including descriptions of forensic analysis, techniques for proper collection and preservation of evidence, and interpreting the significance of scientifically evaluated evidence.
