Personal
Strategies for Navigating Change
Overview
In today’s workplace, employees are experiencing tremendous
changes in organizational strategies, in the way work gets done,
and in the way people work together. These changes present new demands
and challenges for every individual in the organization. Without
personal strategies for dealing productively with change, people
can become overwhelmed and communication can break down.
This unit provides an approach to navigating change—an approach
that people in any organization can use effectively. Participants
explore skills that help them deal with change both individually
and interpersonally, and they develop strategies to deal effectively
with a change that’s difficult for them.
Objectives:
- Describe the challenges of the changes participants are experiencing in their work.
- Describe common responses to change.
- Examine and learn from their own behavior during changes they’ve faced in the past.
- Assess and understand the reasons for change.
- Work effectively with others who resist change.
- Take positive action to make change successful, both individually and with others.

Overview:
The ability to learn faster than the competition is an organizational
survival strategy. For this reason, an important aspect of leadership
is knowing how to work with others and how to enlist their support
in creating a viable, adaptable organization.
This unit helps to avoid two common pitfalls in managing organizational change: reacting to change rather than anticipating it; and assuming that the responsibility for keeping the entire organization moving forward rests with just a few people. In this unit, participants explore what it means to be business analysts and champions of change. The Key Actions provide an overall framework for thinking about and preparing for the future.
Objectives:
- Understand how open-systems thinking helps the organization to adapt to changing conditions.
- Discuss effective ways to deal with obstacles to organizational improvement and to make a case for change.
- Assess the
potential impact of eight key environmental influences on teams.
Plan how to apply forward thinking when working with teams.

Overview:
How much change is your organization experiencing, and more importantly
how well are people dealing with it? This course emphasizes the
crucial role managers have in exploring change, introducing it,
and helping others overcome resistance to it. They do this by conducting
effective discussions that minimize the negative effects of the
change on morale, processes, and productivity.
Objectives:
- Help themselves and others feel more ownership of change in the workplace.
- Prepare for and conduct discussions that involve exploring change, introducing change to others, or overcoming people?s resistance to change.
- Minimize the potentially negative effects on morale, collaboration, and productivity if people do not adapt to change.
- Foster trust and teamwork during times of change.
