Visionary Leadership Today Building Master Mold Makers For Tomorrow Accumold® - World Leaders in Micro-Mold® Manufacturing Solutions and DMACC partner in Talent Development. Rob Denson, President of the Des Moines Area Community College and Roger Hargens, President and CEO of Accumold envisioned together a way to grow Iowa’s future Master Mold. By maximizing the Grow Iowa 260 Fund they created a scholarship program which provides funds for new Accumold employees to obtain their two year Tool & Die Associate of Applied Science Degree while working at Accumold part time. Over the past three years, eleven scholarships have been granted to cover the tuition for technical courses in the Associate of Applied Science program. The student’s classroom learning is put to immediate use at the plant in Ankeny, Iowa. This vantage point gives the students the benefit of an apprentice type experience while obtaining state of the art training in tool and die making. The outcome is a win/win for the employee and Accumold. The Accumold Scholarship program is a model signed off by the Governor for businesses across Iowa to grow new and current talent in their companies. “Our scholars bring more than their talent to Accumold. This blend of Community College education, along with the opportunity for students to work in production and see the best molds at work creates future mold makers who focus on creating a balance between Tool and Die capability with Production parameters. This makes for the perfect match of value for our customers around the world" explained Roger Hargens. Students with a love of mechanical challenges, building and tearing apart things with their hands, good math skills and the ability to work well with others are candidates for the program. Accumold Scholars work approximately 10 to 15 hours a week during the school year. Once their education is complete they move to a full time position with Accumold. A master mold maker can expect to earn up to $85,000 annually at the top of their career. “In the classroom we see Accumold Scholars bringing real life issues to their peers. This helps other students stay on track and focus on their future. Accumold’s proactive approach to developing talent is a clear advantage,” commented John Neumayer, Program Chairperson, and DMACC Tool & Die. Maureen Sharp said, “As the Human Resource Manager at Accumold I have seen multiple benefits from this program. It is a big plus to students coming out of High School looking for a career and a company which will utilize and develop their talents. In addition to the value that this program is bringing our scholars we have experienced an unexpected side benefit. Our Scholars recommend Accumold to their classmates that are looking for jobs.” The implementation of the Grow Iowa Fund has been instrumental in helping businesses to increase the talent of current and future team members. “At DMACC we are focused on Talent Development and connecting that talent with our Iowa businesses for the benefit of both the student and the company. The Accumold Scholarship program is an excellent example of how business, government and education can work together to bring real value to the state through collaboration.” Rob Denson Accumold® is a high-tech manufacturer of precision micro, small and lead frame injection molded plastic components.
