  • DMACC is notified it was receive $1.8 million of a $2.1 million dollar U.S. Department of Labor grant awarded to the Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium to train individuals for high-tech jobs in central Iowa (Nov 2000)
  • DMACC announces a “Celebration of Synergy” as a host of corporate and new technology partnerships associated with the new DMACC West Campus are unveiled (Oct. 2000)
  • Ankeny Campus student Tami Strah of Ankeny is named the Distinguished Regional Officer at the 2000 Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society convention held in Orlando (May 2000)
  • DMACC unveils a new state-of-the-art playground at the Ankeny Campus Child Development Center (Apr. 2000)
  • Orv Salmon is named Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Coach (Apr. 2000)
  • Bill Hitesman is named Executive Dean of the DMACC Boone Campus (Apr. 2000)
  • Design plans for West Campus are unveiled (Mar. 2000)

2001

  • DMACC receives the National Association of Agricultural Educators, Inc. (NAAE) Post-Secondary All-Star Team Award as one of the outstanding post-secondary education programs in the nation.  (Dec. 2001)
  • DMACC receives a nearly $400,000 Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant to establish a Youthbuild program.  (Dec. 2001)
  • The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission makes a site visit of the DMACC Nursing programs (Oct. 2001)

  • DMACC Boone Campus Physics Instructor Nancy Woods is named interim coordinator for the Iowa Region of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society  (Sept. 2001)

  • DMACC receives the Iowa Distance Learning Association 2001 Points of Presence Award (July 2001)
  • The Meridian sculpture, commissioned by the DMACC Alumni Association and overlooking the lake on the Ankeny Campus, is unveiled. (July 2001)
  • Former DMACC Boone Campus Executive Dean Kriss Philips receives the Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award and Boone Campus student Connie Colle of Boone receives the George O. Bierkoe Distinguished Member Award at the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society convention (June 2001)
  • Chatpon Chaisarn, an international student from Thailand, is named the International Student of the Year by DMACC President Joseph Borgen at the May 2001 DMACC Ankeny/Urban/Newton Commencement Ceremony (May 2001)
  • A groundbreaking ceremony was held April 25, 2001 for student housing to be built on the DMACC Boone Campus, managed by High Development Corporation (Apr. 2001)
  • DMACC’s Marketing and Public Relations Department wins two national gold marketing awards—folder design and electronic viewbook—at the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) national conference in Denver, CO (Mar 2001)
  • U.S. Congressman Leonard Boswell discusses his “Rural Technology Development Plan” on the DMACC Ankeny Campus (Mar. 2001)

2002

  • Former Vice President Al Gore speaks to DMACC Urban Campus students and staff in an “Access to Education” forum (Oct. 2002)
  • DMACC Ankeny Campus students hold an observance on the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S. (Sept. 2002)
  • DMACC sets a new enrollment record with 13,205 students enrolled in the fall 2002 semester (Sept. 2002)
  • A partnership between DMACC and Buena Vista University creates new degree completion programs for Newton area residents offered on the Newton Campus. (Aug. 2002)
  • DMACC Board of Directors approves the purchased and remodeling of a building at 820 Porter St. in Des Moines to house the College’s Youth-At-Risk and English-as-a-Second-Language programs (May 2002)
  • Thousands of people attend a DMACC 35th anniversary celebration at a Kite Festival held on the Ankeny Campus (Apr. 2002)
  • Three DMACC students—Kristin Bravard, Melissa Gourley and Wendy Jordan—are named to the 2002 All-Iowa Academic Team. (Feb. 2002)
  • DMACC, Mercy College and the Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium receive a $2.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to prepare nurses for positions in Iowa health care facilities. (Jan. 2002)

2003

  • DMACC receives three-year $1.4 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve the life skills and occupational programs for offenders in three Iowa prisons (Dec. 2003)
  • DMACC receives the 2002 Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Outstanding Community Training Sponsor Award (Dec. 2003)
  • The 50th house built by DMACC Building Trades students over the years is sold in Ankeny (Nov. 2003)
  • Former Vermont Governor and Democratic Presidential candidate Howard Dean and actor/producer/director and national children’s advocate Rob Reiner hold a roundtable discussion on childcare issues at DMACC’s Ankeny Campus. (Nov. 2003)
  • Robert J. DensonDMACC President Rob Denson begin his first day at DMACC on Nov. 3, 2003 by visiting all six DMACC campuses (Nov. 2003)
  • DMACC receives a $1.75 million Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant from the U.S. Department of Education (Oct. 2003)

  • Thousands attend the Iowa Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival held Sept. 13 on the DMACC West Campus (Sept. 2003)
  • DMACC Board of Director member Harold K. Belken receives the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT) 2003 John P. Kibbie Award. (Aug. 2003)
  • DMACC announced that beginning in the fall semester of 2003, the College would offer American Sign Language courses on the Ankeny Campus (Apr 2003)  
  • For the 14th time, two DMACC Dental Hygiene students traveled to Kofu, Japan as part of an exchange program between DMACC’s Dental Hygiene program and the Yamanashi Dental Hygiene College in Kofu.  (May 2003)
  • Des Moines East High School Drama Teacher and DMACC Adjunct Instructor Ruth Ann Gaines was inducted into the 2003 National Teachers Hall of Fame (Apr. 2003)
  • Two DMACC students—Jill Claiborne and Lisa Wilson, both from
    Ankeny—were named to the 2003 All-Iowa Academic Team (Jan 2003)
  • Long-time DMACC Board member Doug Shull resigns from the DMACC board upon his election to the Iowa Senate (Jan 2003)

2004

  • DMACC’s First President, Dr. Paul J. Lowery, dies in Scottsdale, AZ  on Dec. 13, 2004 at the age of 81 (Dec. 2004)
  • Ankeny Campus Personal Computer Applications Instructor Tasha Norton receives the Iowa Business Education Association’s 2004-05 Outstanding New Post-Secondary Teacher Award (Nov. 2004)
  • Continuing Education Assistant Cindy Huisman receives the Iowa Association of Lifelong Learning (IALL) Outstanding Support Person Award (Nov. 2004)
  • Agri-Business Instructor Craig McEnany is named the Iowa Association of Career and Technical Education (IACTE) Career and Technical Teacher of the Year (Nov. 2004)
  • Former Mail Services Inc. Building becomes the DMACC Urban Campus Charles H. Betts Jr. Building in a ceremony dedicating the remodeled 22,400 square foot building (Sept. 2004)
  • Voters approve a six-cent instructional equipment levy within DMACC’s district (Sept. 2004)
  • DMACC Bears Baseball Coach John Smith is inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball Hall of Fame in Grand Junction, CO (May 2004)

  • DMACC Bears Baseball Coach John Smith announces his retirement after 33 years and nearly 900 victories (Oct. 2005)
  • DMACC kicks off India Year with the Ambassador of India to the U.S., World Food Prize Laureate, Governor Tom Vilsack and U.S. Congressman Jim Leach at the Ankeny Campus.
  • DMACC installs new signage on all campuses (Summer 2005)
  • DMACC hosts Constitution Day and First Amendment Fest (Sept. 2005)
  • DMACC Urban Campus Biology Instructor Danielle Wirth’s Biology 172 class is named the 2005 Take Pride in America® National Award Winner (Sept. 2005)

  • Career Academy, Hunziker Center Open House in Ames (Oct. 2006)
  • DMACC Boone Campus student newspaper turns 50 years old.  The first issue of the campus newspaper “BJC” for Boone Junior College was printed on Sept. 27, 1956 (Sept. 2006)  
  • DMACC sets new fall semester enrollment records with 16,854 students and 143,974 credit hours (Sept. 2006)
  • The sixth annual 911 Symposium is held on the Newton Campus (Sept. 2006)
  • DMACC is awarded the bid to become the Fiscal Agent and Service Provider for the Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium (CIETC) (Sept. 2006) 
  • The Ankeny Campus Student Activities Council dedicates a gazebo near the lake by Bldg. #7 in honor of DMACC Biology Instructor Gary Nelson (Aug. 2006)
  • DMACC President Rob Denson receives the “Ordre de Merite Agricole,” France’s oldest civil award, presented by the Consul General of France, Richard Barbeyron, in a ceremony in the Iowa Lieutenant Governor’s Office (Aug. 2006) 
  • DMACC announces it’s offering a new Network Security Management Certificate program at the Urban Campus (July 2006)
  • DMACC dedicates the DMACC Learning Center to the students of the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women in Mitchellville (July 2006)
  • Steve Schulz is named the new Carroll Campus Provost replacing retiring Provost Jim Knott. (June 2006)
  • DMACC sets new summer semester records in headcount and in credit hours with 7,680 students taking 42,792 credit hours (June 2006)
  • DMACC rolls back its tuition increase by $1 per credit hour for the 2006-07 academic year (June 2006)
  • DMACC offers a first-of-its-kind initiative in Iowa called the Interpretation and Translation (ITR) program at the Urban Campus (June 2006)
  • DMACC student Zoe Nady of Nevada wins first place in an Iowa Egg Council Cooking Contest (June 2006) 
  • DMACC enters into new housing agreement with High Properties on housing at the Boone Campus (June 2006)
  • Travis Wyckoff is named the new DMACC Baseball Coach (June 2006)
  • DMACC President Rob Denson and Polk County Supervisors don hardhats and sledgehammers to begin knocking down the Roberts Dairy building (June 2006) 
  • DMACC begins a nursing program at the Newton Campus (Apr. 2006)
  • DMACC students Jessica Arends of Ackley and Melissa Magin of Boone received the 2006 Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Regional Officer Team Award at the PTK International Honor Society national conference held in Seattle.  PTK Iowa Regional Coordinator and Boone Campus Physics Instructor Nancy Woods received the 2006 Distinguished Regional Award for the Iowa Region of PTK (Apr. 2006) 
  • DMACC Women’s Basketball Player Jocelyn Anderson is named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II All-American Honorable Mention List (Apr. 2006)
  • DMACC’s Child Development Center earns accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) (Apr. 2006)
  • Fiction writers and poets read from their works at all six DMACC campuses at DMACC’s fourth annual Celebration of the Literary Arts (Apr. 2006)
  • Eleven DMACC students were among the 52 Iowa community college students named to the All Iowa Academic Team honored at a reception in West Des Moines. (Mar. 2006)
  • Three DMACC Iowa Culinary Institute students, Zoe Nady of Nevada, Casey Movick of Des Moines and Tito Baccam of Pleasant Hill, won first place in the Iowa Pork Producers Association Student Taste of Elegance Competition held at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Des Moines.  (Mar. 2006)
  • Four DMACC Women’s Basketball players were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II All-Region Team.  Jocelyn Anderson of Gowrie was named to the First Team All-Region (Mar. 2006)
  • DMACC and UNI offer 2 + 2 Technology/Management program at the Boone Campus (Mar. 2006)
  • DMACC Accumold Scholars Program signed (Feb. 2006)
  • DMACC & ISU announce Admissions Partnership Program (Feb. 2006)
