General information

I am the Program Director and one of two full-time instructors in the Respiratory Therapy program.  I teach classroom, laboratory and practicum classes to students in the program each term.  I have been with the DMACC Respiratory Therapy Program since June of 1977.   Though I have been teaching for quite a while, in respiratory care for even longer, I met neither Joseph Priestly nor Thomas Beddoes personally.  If you have questions about the respiratory therapy program or want any other information about the respiratory care profession, please contact me by any of the methods listed below.

Background Information

I started my career in respiratory therapy (inhalation therapy back then) in 1973.  I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in June of that year.  I began to work as an on-the-job trainee in the inhalation therapy department of Freeport Memorial Hospital that summer.  In the spring of 1974, I attended the Accelerated Respiratory Therapy Program at the University of Chicago Hospital and Clinics School.  I completed the National Board for Respiratory Care credentialing process to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in 1975.  I worked at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Madison Wisconsin prior to joining the faculty of the DMACC respiratory therapy program in the summer of 1977.

I had the privilege of serving the American Association for Respiratory Care as President in 1997.  I served as president of the Iowa Society for Respiratory Care in 1986.  I was Awarded Life Membership in the AARC in 1998 and in the ISRC in 2000.  I am currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Board for Respiratory Care and the Chair of the Iowa Board of Respiratory Care.
