Volunteer and Partners Highlight Successes
Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) will launch its new community service program called “DMACC, Connected to You” next week at the Iowa State Fair.
The program focuses on DMACC’s public outreach initiatives, events, sponsorships and community nonprofit support. The program’s foundation is DMACC volunteers. More than 50 faculty and staff will host DMACC’s exhibit in the Varied Industries building at the Iowa State Fair (August 9 – 19) in Des Moines.
“’DMACC - Connected to You’ communicates our responsibility and dedication to the communities and people we serve,” said Rob Denson, DMACC President. “Whenever you see this slogan, DMACC is doing something to help people or make Central Iowa a better place to live and work.”
Each year DMACC hosts or sponsors more than 70 events such as the annual Coat Drive co-sponsored with KCWI23; the 3 on 3 Basketball tournament to raise money for DMACC scholarships; Destination Imagination, a K-12 problem-solving competition and the DMACC Kite Festival, just to name a few.
DMACC also promotes and encourages diversity through annually sponsoring and participating in the Latino Festival, Black History Month, Asian Festival, Juneteenth and other celebrations or recognition events across Central Iowa.
The “DMACC – Connected to You” program incorporates current and retired faculty and staff volunteers, donations, and often free use of DMACC facilities.
“DMACC has been supporting the communities we serve for many years, but the “DMACC - Connected to You” program ties all of our important community outreach activities together under one umbrella,” said Denson.
Denson also cited the importance of public and private partners. “Support from the media, public and private organizations all help to make our community participation more effective,” said Denson.
