Posted 1/23/08

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) has again set spring semester enrollment records in headcount and credit hours. In official enrollment figures reported to the Iowa Department of Education, DMACC enrolled 18,365 students taking 151,942 credit hours in the semester that began Jan. 7, 2008.

The 18,365 students enrolled at DMACC this spring semester is an all-time record, exceeding the fall semester headcount for a second year in a row. Fall semester enrollment is typically higher than the spring semester figures. The spring enrollment record compares with 18,320 students taking credit classes on the six DMACC campuses last fall and 17,697 students enrolled in the spring of 2007.

“We are working very hard to provide the highest quality education and our numbers reflect that effort,” said DMACC President Rob Denson.

This spring semester headcount is up 3.8 percent or 668 additional students compared to the spring semester enrollment figures of last year and the credit hours are up 5.1 percent or 7,388 additional credit hours.  Fall term 2007 was 1,466 students greater than fall of 2006.

DMACC's enrollment numbers are the official figures reported to the Iowa Department of Education on the14th day after classes begin to reflect accurate
year-to-year comparisons.  DMACC offers credit classes in career education and arts and science programs for transfer at full-service campuses in Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Newton, Urban Des Moines and at West Des Moines.
