DMACC to Host Iowa Studies Forum

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) will host the 2008 Iowa Studies Forum, which serves as a celebration of Iowa’s history, science, politics, literature and art. The event will take place on Fri., Apr. 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Bldg. #7 on the Ankeny Campus, and will continue in Des Moines at the State Historical Society Museum from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This year’s theme is “The World in Iowa: Immigrants and Immigration,” and will feature 20 morning educational presentations and a luncheon with former Governor Tom Vilsack.
The afternoon and evening session will feature a panel discussion on immigration, along with a concluding reception and dinner at the Historical Society. The dinner’s keynote speaker is Professor Stephen G. Bloom, author of Postville: A Clash of Cultures in Heartland America.

Registration fees are $20 for the morning session, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch; $25 for the afternoon and evening session, which includes dinner; or $40 for both sessions. High school and college students can attend free with registration.
