The home folder is where you keep your personal information. Your Home Folder is actually on the hard drive of the computer you are working on. The home folder contains several folders that help you organize your documents and files:
- Desktop: the files and folders that appear on your desktop. Note: Do not store items on the desktop. Keep them in your Documents folder.
- Documents: keep all of your work here.
- Library: files used by the Mac OS and your applications, including your preferences. Do NOT store any personal fonts or files in this folder
What Happens When You Log-In to a DMACC Macintosh Computer
When you log-in to a Mac computer at DMACC, here is what happens:
- A “Home” folder is created on that computer’s hard drive that only you have access to.
- You do not have to worry about someone else erasing or copying your files.
- Your files exist on that computer's hard drive only. Copy them to an external drive to use them at home or on another computer.
- Any preferences you set on that Mac, will be saved automatically and will appear as you left them when you log back in.
- If you load fonts on a Mac, they will only be loaded on that Mac. If you work on another computer you will have to load them there too.
