Career & Transfer Resource Center - Ankeny Campus

The Career & Transfer Resource Center (CTRC) provides up-to-date career and transfer information and assistance.

Next Steps
As you are planning your career/educational steps you should be engaging in activities that will help you explore your options, learn more about yourself, and develop your portfolio. Participation in these activities will help you make informed decisions and meet your goals. Here is a suggested timeline to help you take the steps each semester that you are a student at DMACC.

Majors and Careers
Choosing a major requires gathering information about an area of study or an occupational area and the suggested area of study for that job.  The CTRC has books about choosing a major; it has occupational descriptions to suggest a major(s); and computers to access websites that provide useful information.

Make a connection between an area of study and the related job possibilities by using the information in the Career Center.

Career Assessment
There are assessment tools that will help persons evaluate their interest, experience, abilities and personalities. The assessment tools in the CTRC are:

  • Self-Directed Search, an interest test booklet that suggests a career area;
  • Skill Sort, to prioritize your most important skills;
  • Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator, that clarifies four decision-making styles;
  • Strong Interest Inventory (online) to determine a focus career area;
  • Choices (a computerized guidance system), that offers interest, skills and values assessment that links to occupational and educational information.

An hour appointment is required to allow time for taking the “test” and evaluating results to determine the next step in career planning. The results from these assessments will provide up-to-date information about careers and educational opportunities.

It is essential to contact the campus of your choice and make an appointment.

Career Employment
Our Student Employment Assistance staff can connect you with employment opportunities. An online job service, Iowacareer.net, is available to students and employers from DMACC and other Iowa community colleges. Students post their resume for Iowa employers to review. Employers post job openings for student review.

Transfer Library
The Career & Transfer Resource Center includes a Transfer Library. The library provides catalogs for many four-year colleges and universities. There is information about majors at Iowa schools, as well as some outside of Iowa.  Other information available is the application process, costs, scholarships and special programs between DMACC and the four-year institution.

Articulation Agreements
DMACC has agreements with many colleges and universities describing how courses transfer between institutions. Use the transfer notebooks to research and plan for a successful transfer. Visit the DMACC advising site for more information.

Counselors and Advisors are available at each campus by appointment to explore and evaluate career and transfer options.
