Services for Students with Disabilities - Interpreters

Glossary of DMACC Terms:

Audit: to attend class without credit.

Core: basic required courses for liberal arts. Most of the time these course credits will transfer to other colleges.

Drop/Add: drop a class-no longer attend that class. May drop a class up to the 10th week of the semester. Add a class-take an additional course. May add a course during the first week of the semester.

Elective: course of your choice.

Full-time student: taking 12 credit hours during fall and spring semester and eight credit hours during summer semester.

GPA (Grade Point Average): total grade point of all courses taken, averaged together to measure success or failure.

Part-time student: less than 12 credit hours during fall and spring semesters and less than 8 credit hours during summer semester.

Pre-requisite: required completion of a course before you can enter a higher level course.

Registration: selecting courses, filling out correct forms, and paying fees before classes begin.

SAC (Student Activity Counsel): student governing body.

Semester Credit Hour: measurement of how many hours the student is required to be in class each week and how much time collected towards graduation.

Transcripts: formal list of the student’s completed courses and grade results.

Vocational: work related courses, taken for a specific career.
