The College Planning Timeline

September

  • Register for October ACT
  • Contact DMACC for admission application at 1-800-362-2127, ext. 6200.
  • Research DMACC information at www.dmacc.edu
  • Meet with guidance counselor:
    -Evaluate college choices
    -Evaluate high school transcript

October

  • Complete and file DMACC admission application, if haven't already done so.
  • Meet with DMACC Recruiter visiting your high school.
  • Schedule a DMACC campus visit, call 1-800-362-2127, ext. 7100.
  • Arrange an appointment with an academic advisor.
  • Prepare essay notes for scholarship applications.
  • Attend College Information Sessions, if required: e.g., nursing, automotive, etc.
  • Investigate all potential sources of financial aid.
    -Check out postings at your guidance counselor's office.
    -Check out financial aid web sites.
    -Write to private scholarship programs for information.

November

  • Register for December ACT, if you haven't already taken.
  • Compose and review essays with teachers for scholarship applications.
  • Complete and send DMACC admission application.
  • Inform parents that financial aid forms are due after January 1st.
  • Investigate all potential sources of financial aid.
    -Check out postings at your guidance counselor's office.
    -Check out financial aid web sites.
    -Write to private scholarship programs for information.

December

  • Attend high school financial aid night.
    (If one is not scheduled, contact the financial aid office at DMACC 1-800-362-2127, ext. 6282)
  • Attend College Information Sessions, if required: e.g., nursing,automotive, etc.
  • Complete and file DMACC admission application, if haven't already done so.
  • Investigate all potential sources of financial aid.
    -Check out postings at your guidance counselor's office.
    -Check out financial aid web sites.
    -Write to private scholarship programs for information.

January

  • Register for February ACT, if haven't already taken.
  • Attend high school financial aid night.
    (If one is not scheduled, contact the financial aid office at DMACC 1-800-362-2127, ext. 6282)
  • File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. If you have questions completing the form call the DMACC Financial Aid Office at 1-800-362-2127, ext. 6282.
  • Attend College Information Sessions, if required: e.g., nursing, automotive, etc.

February

  • Register for Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
  • Investigate all potential sources of financial aid.
    -Check out postings at your guidance counselor's office.
    -Check out financial aid web sites.
    -Write to private scholarship programs for information.
  • Remind guidance counselors to send mid-year transcripts to DMACC.
  • Attend College Information Sessions, if required: e.g., nursing, automotive, etc.

March

  • Register for April ACT, if haven't already taken.
  • Financial Aid Office may request additional information from you and your parents, such as income tax records. Prompt response on your part will speed the process.
  • DMACC will begin notifying students of Financial Aid Awards, if a FAFSA has been sent to DMACC.
  • Attend College Information Sessions, if required: e.g., nursing, automotive, etc.

April

  • April 1 - Priority consideration deadline for financial aid.
  • April 1 - DMACC Foundation Scholarship deadline.
  • Register for June ACT, if haven't already taken.
  • Make your final selection for college.
  • Financial Aid Office may request additional information from you and your parents, such as income tax records. Prompt response on your part will speed the process.
  • Attend College Information Sessions, if required: e.g., nursing, automotive, etc.

May

  • If you have been placed on a wait list for a DMACC program, contact the Admission Office at
    1-800-362-2127, ext. 6495.
  • If you need financial assistance to help pay for college, contact the DMACC Financial Aid Office at 1-800-362-2127, ext. 6282.

June

  • June 1st - state deadline to file FAFSA.
  • Respond to all requests from your college.
  • Notify all colleges you applied to concerning your final choice.
  • Ask your guidance counselor to forward your final transcripts to DMACC.
  • Send thank you notes to teachers, and others, who assisted you in your college search.
