Rick Carpenter is the director of the DMACC Success Center. Rick oversees the ABE/GED/ESL/Youth Consortium/Correction programs as well as coordinates all the district non-credit programs as well as coordinates all of the district non-credit ESL classes at DMACC. He earned his B.S.B.A Marketing in 1992 from University Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri and his MA in Speech Communication from University Central Missouri in 1995. Rick started at DMACC in the fall of 2004 in the high school completion center and is currently the director at the Success Center. He enjoys spending quality time with his family and hunting.

Carlos Garza is an Educational Advisor at the DMACC Success Center. He received his Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) from Texas State University and Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Drake University. He has been with DMACC since Fall 2002. Carlos enjoys Event Planning, Arts, Outdoor Trips, Gardening and vacationing with friends and family.

April Dameron is an Academic Advisor at the DMACC Success Center. She received her BA from Simpson College in Psychology and Criminal Justice in 2000. She has been with DMACC since 2001 and has worked at the Ankeny and Urban Campuses. April enjoys working with students and helping them to reach their goals by continuing their education.

Gayle has been with DMACC since 2004 and is excited to rejoin the Success Center team as the classroom GED instructor.  Gayle earned her BS in Education from Iowa State University and a Master of Education from the University of Houston.  She is married with three children and enjoys gardening between chauffeuring to and attending her children’s activities.

Nancy Coursen is the GED Consultant at the DMACC Success Center. She received her B.A. from San Francisco State University in French and Business Administration in 1982 and her Elementary Teaching Credential from Chapman University in 1997. She began at DMACC in 1998 and has taught both GED and ESL classes. Nancy is also a trainer for our CASAS Writing program. In her spare time she enjoys family activities, travel, step aerobics and walks with her two dogs.

Sarah Thao is a District ESL Consultant and ESL Teacher at the DMACC Success Center. She earned her BA in General Studies (Spanish, Chinese and Linguistics) from Central College in Pella and an MA in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO.  Sarah started teaching ESL at DMACC in 1999. She has also taught at Forest Avenue Library, Urban Campus and St. Peter’s. Sarah enjoys reading, cooking, volunteering with the Iowa Asian Alliance and her church, and playing with her cats.

Heather Knute is the Topspro Specialist at the DMACC Success Center. She received her AA degree in Liberal Arts from DMACC. She has been at the Success Center since January 2006. In her spare time she enjoys going boating, playing volleyball, shopping and hanging out with friends and family.

Soneeta Mangra-Dutcher is the Adult Literacy Consultant. She also oversees the Family Literacy Programs and teaches GED classes at the Workforce Development site. Soneeta earned her AA from DMACC in 1996 and BS in Psychology from Upper Iowa University in 2003. She was the Test Examiner at the Urban Campus from 1996 – 2001. She has been teaching GED classes since April 2005 and the Adult Literacy Consultant since April 2006. Soneeta is married and has three children. In her spare time she loves to spend time with her children and husband. They enjoy reading and have a house full of books! They also like to travel to WARM places and also spend a lot of time with their extended families.

Sandra Erickson is the STEP Advisor at the DMACC Success Center.  She received her BS degrees from South Dakota State University in Sociology and Child Development/Family Relations.  Sandra received her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.  She has been at DMACC since January 2007.  Sandra is married and has two daughters.  She keeps busy attending her daughters' many activities.  Sandra enjoys spending time with her family and friends at their lake house in the Ozarks.  She also enjoys photography, scrapbooking, and home decorating.

Mayo (May) Neville is the new Administrative Assistant at the DMACC Success Center. May is a native of Des Moines, IA and attended Lincoln High School. She a 2007 graduate of Drake University and has a degree in International Relations. May loves to travel, read about world politics, go to the gym and is fluent in Spanish.
