Advanced ESL Listening/Conversation Skills
In this course, communication skills are emphasized and
developed through oral exercises and high-interest topics.
Class activities stimulate students’ imagination as well
as ability to formulate ideas in a discussion format in
English. The focus of these courses is on critical thinking
through verbalizing in English.
ESL 95 Communicative Grammar for ESL
This
is a comprehensive and dynamic course designed to help
advanced ESL students to understand and practice English
grammar while promoting the development of speaking, listening,
reading, and writing skills. The course aims to improve
the students’ command of English and extends it outside
the grammar classroom.
ESL 96 Reading English as a Second Language
This course
is part of a lively reading series that helps advanced
ESL students to truly understand the American environment
through thought-provoking reading passages and CNN video
selections which focus on current topics ranging from
popular culture to technology and cyber world. Vocabulary
development is also accomplished through an understanding
of word roots and affixes of English.
ESL 97 Introduction to Writing Skills - ESL
This
writing skills development course takes the student
from paragraph writing to basic essay writing skills.
The students progresses from organizational principles
of good academic writing in English to major rhetorical
forms such as cause and effect, classification, etc.
Extensive practice in all steps of the writing process
includes a grammar-refresher, mechanics, and punctuation.
