The Iowa High School Equivalency Diploma is a document that certifies that whoever passes the testing battery has attained the educational level of a high school graduate. It is earned by passing General Education Development (GED) tests. The State of Iowa, through the Department of Education, awards the diploma. Employers, unions, and colleges recognize the GED as the equivalent of a high school diploma. Usually, persons who are 18 years old or older and who have not completed high school are eligible to take the tests and earn the Iowa High School Diploma. There are five tests in all:

  1. Writing Skills (English)
  2. Social Studies
  3. Science
  4. Interpreting Literature and the Arts
  5. Mathematics

The AAC provides preparation for GED testing in each testing area.
